Abstract
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) represents a rich repository of indigenous wisdom encompassing education, philosophy, science, medicine, agriculture, arts, and culture. The implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has renewed interest in integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into mainstream education. However, limited empirical studies have examined the pedagogical approaches and learning outcomes associated with IKS at the regional level. This study investigates the pedagogical methods employed in teaching Indian Knowledge Systems and evaluates their impact on student learning in Tiruchirappalli District, Tamil Nadu. A mixed-method research design involving surveys, interviews, classroom observations, and focus group discussions was adopted. The findings reveal that experiential learning, storytelling, community engagement, value-based education, and interdisciplinary teaching are widely used pedagogical methods. Students exposed to IKS-based education demonstrated enhanced cultural awareness, ethical understanding, critical thinking, and holistic development. The study highlights the significance of integrating indigenous knowledge with contemporary educational practices to promote contextualized and culturally relevant learning. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, curriculum developers, and educational institutions seeking to strengthen the implementation of Indian Knowledge Systems.
